The Sim Better Business Bureau
aka Simchronicity
|
On line since at least September 2001, The Sim Better Business Bureau changed its name to Simchronicity (page 9) and then subsequently moved from Fortune City to the Simchroncity Yahoo group. Older stuff is stored in two more Yahoo groups: Simchronicty2 and Simchroncity3 as well as the Simchronicity Adult group.
The Fortune City site (see the link at the left) now just provides links to all the Yahoo groups. Pop-up ads on that site.
The group files have objects in all categories. See Sina J'ax's Quality Reports for examples of some of the best Sims stuff to be found on the web as well as a few duds. Some mild adult content in the Adult group. (These are decorative items. Hey, what would you expect from a high-school art teacher?)
Health issues are currently keeping Sina J'ax from doing much updating.

The SimDay Times

Closed. Domain taken over by cybersquatters.
We once said: Looks like a newspaper about other sites, but there are too many errors in the HTML and style sheets to tell much about this site.

The Sim Depot
|
Site closed in 2001. Has an interesting note about the trevails of simsmastering.
Caddy says, "Yep. It says they've moved to Sims Incorporated on The Sims Resource" but the webmaster wasn't happy with that, either."

The SimGallery @ Kelahn.com
|
The Gallery is closed, but the utilities are still available at kelahn.com.
Once upon a time (circa 2001): Aladrin Kelahn moved The Sim Gallery from Terrashare in June 2001. Offers a variety of recolored objects, mostly in solid colors, and some unusual character meshes of fairies and comic book characters.

The Simposium
|
At The Simposium, you will find lots of innovative objects in all categories. There are lots of new sets and things for The Sims Hot Date. Don't miss the stunning Tomb Raider theme! Click on the site map to find all the nifty stuff.
Hosted on cjb.net, with some pages on Sim Vibes. Bookmark the cjb.net version of the URL.
Note: There was another site called Simposium that launched a nasty pop-up gun. This is not that site.

The Sim Republic
|
At The Sim Republic, you will find some outstanding skins that Kelly made
for her own game and wants to share with you. Emphasis is on women's clothing
based on the work of top fashion designers. Also has a great collection of
original walls and floors, many with an African motif. Really nice webcraft.
Carla says, "Kelly's careful attention to shading and her eye for fashion
bring her skins to life!"
Caddy says, "The Sim Republic is best viewed using Internet Explorer on
Windows. I get some Javascript errors and somewhat different layout for the pages
on the Mac, but everything still works on any platform."
Hosted by SimsHost since February 10, 2004. Started out on Geocities and then moved to Yahoo
in December 2003. Hosting costs and time pressure in real life lead Kelly to move to SimsHost in
February 2004.
The original site
will remain open until the last subscription runs out in April 2004, but Kelly is
not accepting any new subscriptions there.
This is one of more than sixty great Sims sites hosted by
SimsHost.
You'll want to subscribe to SimsHost so you can download the goodies.
Fortunately, it won't cost you much to subscribe and in addition to getting
access to dozens of the greatest sites on the net, when you subscribe to
SimsHost you are doing your part to keep all of the great Sims sites
on line!

The Sims
The official site
|
The official web site for The Sims, from Maxis and
Electronic Arts. Offers downloads, news about The Sims, links to fan sites, a very busy BBS, screen savers, desktop images, and some Windows-centric utilities.
Macintosh users will also be interested in the
Aspyr web site where you can download a few more utilities and things, and keep up with news on Aspyr's porting of The Sims to the Mac.
Linux users, as far as we know, the long-rumored port of The Sims to Unix still has not been released. However, a rumor of a port directly to MacOS-X, which has a BSD core, may help this along.
Maxis has released seven expansion packs for the PC version of The Sims. For your convenience, here are direct links to the official site for each of the expansion packs, in the order they were released:
Some of the official sites require Shockwave Flash to work in your web browser.
New players should note that The Sims Double Deluxe version includes the Livin' Large and House Party expansion packs along with some characters that were not included in the original expansion packs.

The Sims 2
|
Official site for The Sims 2. Maxis expects to release The Sims 2 in the summer of 2004. It will be an entirely new version of The Sims in a 3D world that presents new opportunities and new challenges for fan artists.
We expect that the original version of The Sims will be popular for a long time to come, with The Sims 2 adding another dimension to the Sims experience in the same way as The Sims Online and the console versions of the game.

lots of broken links were all we found. Perhaps it's still under construction. Hosted on Geocities.

The Sims Download Corner

This site from The Netherlands is written entirely in Dutch. Apparently
you need to be a member of the download club to gain access to the
downloadable material.
WARNING: Background music.
|
|
The Sims Downloads
|
Nothing to download here, but hundreds of web pages with pictures of thousands of downloadable
objects, skins, house, walls, floors, and roofs; all with links to the web sites where you can
download the stuff. Search engine allows you to search for key words in the filenames of objects
or skins. Images are fetched from the catalogued sites, so loading pages can take a while,
and broken images are the norm.

The Sims Dream House
|
We found some beautiful skins at The Sims Dream House but just got "page not found" errors for all the other links. The collection of skins includes some truly stunning wedding dresses worn by even more stunning models. Tonya's collection of dresses from the Star Wars movies is magnificent.
Presented in both Russian and English. The navigation scripts don't work at all on IE for MacOS, but they do work in IE for Windows. Moved from by.ru to web1000.com in November 2002. Periodically launches pop-up advertising windows.

The Sims Extreme
|
Webmaster Jordan is just getting started with making objects for The Sims, but you will find a taxi, two trees,
a clothes rack, and a baby here already. The Skins section is empty at the moment. Jordan expects to have the
site fully operational by April 2002.
Hosted on Angelfire, whose
wisecracks about pages it can't find almost make up for the pop-up ads.
(Note: Despite its URL, this is not the same site as "The Sims Downloads" listed above.)

The Sims Hangout

of utility programs and patches (for Windows machines) that you can download.
Utilities offered include The Sims Editor, Mailbox Repairer,
Simplorer, SimLink, SimSearch, Neighorhood Handler,
EliSims Multineighborhood, FarView, and Bodywarp.
Also has a page all about nude sims -- how to make them, where to find objects
that switch the characters to their nude skins, patches, utilities, and objects.
You can get the "nude patch" here; that removes the blur when your sims take a bath.
(Adult material).

It looks like Maverick is just getting started, but you will find some very interesting objects. The metal
furniture on objects page 1 obviously could have been made on Luna. You will also find a toolbox, lockers,
and other outfitting for your mad scientist, including an atomic bomb! The houses include some ships and
a resort with a strong nautical motif. Hosted on Talkcity.

The Sims Home Shopping Network
|
We can't get this site to work. Apparently requires a later version of Macromedia Flash than any of us have installed.
The URL points to "greatprices.at". Wants to install at least half a dozen cookies from advertising services.
It looks like they have a nice collection of recolored furniture sets, but we'll have to come back armed with
a new Shockwave to properly explore the site.

The Sims Resource
|
The Sims Resource offers a huge collection of downloadable goodies contributed by
their subscribers. Walls and objects by Raveena are a featured specialty.
Some of the artists are skilled veterans and some are just learning the craft, so quality
and style vary widely.
A search engine is available to subscribers, and it's almost essential for navigating the
huge catalog of contributions.
Also hosts a very popular message board and a treasure trove of tutorials, hints, and helps.
The Sims Resource has a fascinating history. It
originally hosted many of the great Sims sites. As the community of Sims fans grew, server
response slowed to almost a dead stop and they had to give up on hosting all those sites.
So if you find link to a site to "something.thesimsresource.com", chances are that
the link is out of date.
Response has improved dramatically since TSR started charging for
subscriptions (about $4 a month, or $3 a month one-year subscription; no refunds).
Hosted in Sweden.

The Sims Universe Home
Page
|
We still are not able to get this site to load. Is it alive?
Large collection of objects. The artist appears to enjoy odd viewing angles and the strangest patterns possible. Also a sizeable collection of skins from television shows and combat games, apparently executed with no shading at all. Hosted on Homestead, if it's still there.
Warning: LOUDbackground music on every page. If you sneak into The Sims Universe while you're supposed to be working, turn off your speakers first! You can dance if you want to.

The Sims Warehouse Club

Site closed. Russell says it's time for him to move on to other things. Following is our original review.
Objects in all categories.
Pasiphae says, "I found a bench here that might be made of dressed stone blocks on Luna. There
are some new plants, too; we need lots of broad-leafed plants in Luna City; they're part of
the oxygen generation system! The SWC House Sitter 2000 looks just like the environmental
control monitors you will find all over Luna City."
